Celebrating International Women’s Day

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day by highlighting two extraordinary women leading our work in the remote headwaters of the Amazon.

Cesia Babilonia (second from left), a member of the Shipibo-Konibo tribe from the city of Pucallpa, leads our Community Life Plan initiative. She is living in the Ashéninka community of Sawawo near the Yurua River and the Peru–Brazil border coordinating participatory workshops to help Sawawo strategize about their future needs and development.

María Elena Paredes (third from left) is from Sawawo and is helping Cesia develop her community's Life Plan. She is also the coordinator of Sawawo’s vigilance committee and leads our efforts to strengthen Sawawo’s resistance to an illegal narco-logging road through its lands.

We are so fortunate to have these two amazing, hard-working Indigenous environmentalists, mothers and leaders as part of our team!
